Using the File Server
Kenrick has a file server that you can use to securely store files in a place that is accessible from any computer in the building, except in the library. This service allows you to:
- Access your own private files from any computer in the building (using your Private space on the file server).
- Share files with anyone in the building (using the Public space on the file server).
- Back up important files for safekeeping.
- Eliminate the need to carry USB drives around the building.
Tips for using the file server:
- Anything you save in "My Documents" on a lab or classroom computer is automatically saved to the file server and will appear in your "My Documents" folder no matter which classroom or lab computer you use. Therefore, if you save files on the lab computers, save them in "My Documents," not on the desktop!
- The "P:" drive on any lab or classroom computer is the file server.
- Files saved on the file server are backed up and can be recovered if lost or damaged.
- The paths to the Public and Private areas are:
- Public: \\kgsfs1.kensem.local\Student\Public\
- Private: \\kgsfs1.kensem.local\Student\Private\<YOUR USERNAME, like "jdoe">
- If prompted for a username, use the same username and password as you do for e-mail. For example, enter "KENSEM\jdoe"
- Note that the file server cannot be accessed from the library.
