Internet Connection Problems
If you are having problems with your connection to the Internet, such as slowness or not being able to go to certain websites, please read this page.
Your Internet Connection is Slow
If your Internet connection is very slow (i.e. it takes a long time after you open your web browser for web pages to load, or it takes more than 20 seconds to load a page like cnn.com), you might have spyware or malware on your computer, which might make not only the Internet, but also your whole computer, slow down.
To get rid of spyware and malware, download and install, then run these two programs:
If running these two programs doesn't solve your problem, or if you can't download and/or run the two programs above, then send SCS a work order (click the link at the top of the page), and we'll get around to your problem as soon as we can.
You Can't Connect to the Internet Through Your Wired (Ethernet) Connection
Before submitting a work order to the SCS or alerting one of the SCS members that the Internet is down, please check the following:
- If you can get email from mail.kenrick.edu, but you can't access a website (like cnn.com), then the Internet is down, but your computer is functioning properly. Wait an hour or so to see if SCS has brought the Internet back online again.
- If you cannot get online, but people in the rooms around you in your hall can, then your computer is having trouble connecting to the network; make sure your computer is plugged into the wall correctly (using the orange plug on the wall box), and make sure you have followed the network setup instructions.
You Can't Connect to the Internet Through Your Wireless Connection
Before submitting a work order to the SCS or alerting one of the SCS members that the Internet is down, please check the following:
- If you can get email from mail.kenrick.edu, but you can't access a website (like cnn.com), then the Internet is down, but your computer is functioning properly. Wait an hour or so to see if SCS has brought the Internet back online again.
- If you cannot get online, but people in the rooms around you in your hall can through their wireless connection, then your computer is having trouble connecting to the network; make sure your computer wireless settings are correct (and make sure you are connected to 'tsunami' or 'Kenrick WiFi' in your wireless connection settings), and make sure you have followed the network setup instructions.
